CPU tuning begins by determining whether the workload is actually CPU-bound. Check CPU states, runnable queues, per-process/thread use, context switches, throttling/steal time, and profiles of hot code.
Optimize expensive application work before applying scheduler or affinity tweaks. Excess threads can increase context-switching and cache pressure; too little parallelism can leave CPU idle.
Affinity, NUMA placement, frequency/power settings, and scheduler controls are workload-specific tools, not universal defaults. Validate changes with latency/throughput profiles.
