NOTE
Managed Elasticsearch Services
Operational trade-offs of cloud-managed Elasticsearch-compatible services: versions, networking, scaling, snapshots, observability, and lock-in.
This is a historical learning note and may contain outdated or incomplete understanding.
A managed Elasticsearch service can automate node provisioning, replacement, snapshots, monitoring integration, upgrades, and parts of scaling/maintenance.
It does not remove data-model/search-design work. You still own mappings, shard/lifecycle strategy, query cost, ingestion backpressure, client timeouts, security policy, and capacity planning.
Managed offerings may lag or diverge from upstream Elasticsearch versions/features and can have provider-specific APIs/limits. Verify compatibility, networking/egress cost, backup/restore guarantees, upgrade policy, and migration options before depending on proprietary features.
