Redis Process Signals
Operational signal handling in Redis: graceful shutdown/reload-related behavior and why service managers and current Redis documentation should define production procedures.

1. Why Signals Matter
Redis is a long-running Unix process and reacts to selected operating-system signals for shutdown and diagnostic/operational behavior.
Signal semantics can change across Redis releases, so production automation should follow the documentation for the exact version.
2. Graceful Shutdown
A graceful stop gives Redis an opportunity to perform configured persistence/shutdown work and close resources cleanly.
Prefer service-manager or Redis-aware shutdown mechanisms rather than indiscriminately using SIGKILL, which prevents cleanup.
3. Persistence Implications
Whether shutdown writes an RDB/AOF-related state depends on configuration and Redis behavior/version. Do not assume a signal itself guarantees durability.
4. Operational Rule
Use systemd/Kubernetes/managed-service lifecycle controls with an explicit termination grace period and tested persistence behavior. Signals are a process-control mechanism, not a substitute for a backup/failover plan.
